Air Freight News Summary

The air freight industry is making strides towards becoming greener, with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) gaining traction as a more eco-friendly alternative to traditional kerosene. Fuel manufacturers, airlines, digital cargo booking platforms and other stakeholders are working together to make SAF more accessible. In Germany, the Offenbacher Stadtrat Paul-Gerhard Weiß has been appointed as the new chair of the Fluglärmkommission for Frankfurt Airport. Meanwhile, Rolls-Royce is expecting a better operating performance this year despite last year’s losses due to the pandemic.

To improve passenger comfort at airports, Düsseldorf is introducing a quality program called “Off-Block” with over 30 measures that include new services and additional staff. In addition, Ita Airways has been able to avert a strike by reaching an agreement with unions on higher wages for employees. Kuehne+Nagel has also partnered with Birmingham-Shuttlesworth Airport in Alabama to increase commercial prospects for both parties.

The Belastingdienst in the Netherlands is currently experiencing delays in updating RTI status in eCR due to technical issues. Finally, an EU project called Circular is researching how sustainable aviation fuels can be produced from agricultural waste while Cologne’s marketing agency Echte Liebe will be supporting Flughafen Lübeck and Lübeck Air with strategic advice, data creation and media services. Airlander plans on providing efficient regional flights as well as freight transport by airship.
